Intro to Alpine Rock Weekends

9,10,11 July 2010. 2 spaces remaining only.
€795 euros

Chamonix offers a range of sun-kissed granite, gneiss, schist, and limestone for all levels of climber from beginner to pro... with the added incredible view of the Mont Blanc Massive.

This long weekend break is a great chance to get out and get a taste of what alpine multi-pitch climbing is all about with a guide who will pick the best climbs for your experience and ability. You will not only climb some gorgeous classic routes but also learn some valuable ropework and anchor techniques as well as improve your climbing. Its a short course, but intense... all of our course participants always leave with a big smile and weary limbs when its all over.

This course is best suited for you if you have climbed outside before, and ideally done a little bit of multi-pitch climbing. You don't have to be a gnarly climber, but you will benefit especially if you can comfortably second grade F5 /5+ or a soft VS.

Day 1: Arrive in the evening and get settled in your accommodation.

Day 2: First day out with your guide going over techniques and trying easy multi-pitches together. We'll work on helping you especially with areas in which you might not be as strong (e.g. slabs, overhangs, etc.) And, we will cover and review some essential ropework, anchors and abseiling techniques that are especially relevent to alpine climbing.

Day 3: Early start around 7 a.m. for a big day out on one of the classic routes in the area.

Day 4: Your last day, so we will be up again early to climb something especially memorable. The day will be filled by climbing and you'll be returning to Chamonix at about 6pm, as some clients will be departing this evening. Or, you can stay and have a meal together and depart the next day if it suits.
